Alebrijes

Summary:

I strongly recommend this book to readers who are interested in what

our world could be like in the future, and how we can change for the

betterment of everything! Although, this book can be graphic and does

have bits of murder, discrimination, ect. So if you're easily startled or

become uncomfortable when reading things like that, then this isn't the

book for you. Reader discretion is advised for younger readers.

Alebrijes is a book about what the world could turn out like in the

future. Sadly, it's not the cool, futuristic version you see in sci-fi movies, it's

a version of the hard truth of this world. People are divided by status, age,

and race. This story illustrates the lives of two young Cascabel orphans,

Leandro and Gabi, who have stumbled into this terrible city and now work

in the papa (potato) fields. But, they need to figure out how to escape their

enslavement while saving everyone else.

I absolutely adore the bits of Spanish used in Alebrijes! It's a great

addition to the Cascabels, but it sometimes doesn't offer translations, so

you have to rely either on the context clues, or good old Google Translate.

This book also shows problems within our old society (and a bit in the one

we are in now), and how if we don't fix them, they destroy us from the

inside. This story is full of plot-twists, betrayals, mythic legends coming to

life, and even glimpses into a could-be future. It's a very inclusive book and

I have fallen in love with everything about it! It's a great book and definitely

on my list of favorites.  I hope it lands a spot on your list too!
